Tour Highlights
• Gretna Green
• Gilnockie Tower – The Seat of Clan Armstrong.
• Langholm and The MacDiarmid Memorial.
• Teviothead and Caerlanrig - site of atrocity committed by King James V on the chief of the Armstrong Clan, Johnny Armstrong in 1530.
• Hermitage Castle - Clan Elliot’s imposing fortress. Taken over by Clan Douglas who built a ‘fighting platform’ around its perimeter.
• Newcastleton – planned industrial village. Lunch stop.
• Mangerton Tower.
• Milnholm Cross – monument to Armstrong chief killed at Hermitage Castle.
• Ettleton Old Kirkyard.
• Tourneyholm – site of tournaments, trading and executions.
• Rowanburn – with its statue and to the giant, and seemingly terrifying, Lang Sandy Armstrong.
• Cannonbie Old Kirkyard – in The Debatable Land between Scotland and England.
